For several decades, Mega Man has been synonymous with Capcom, serving as their iconic emblem. However, enthusiasts of this character haven’t had much to cheer about lately, as it’s been years since a new Mega Man game was released, and there doesn’t seem to be anything new on the horizon from Capcom. In their latest shareholder meeting, Capcom did hint at future plans for Mega Man, but it doesn’t seem like fans can expect much excitement soon.
Regarding the Mega Man series, it holds significant value for us and we’re always brainstorming ideas to expand it. At the moment, we don’t have any new details to disclose.” (Company statement from the Q&A)

In simpler terms, every time fans ask about Mega Man’s future, Capcom responds with something along the lines of “we’re thinking about making more games.” However, this has been their response for several years now, and no new Mega Man games have been released as a result. This pattern suggests that Capcom may not be taking significant steps to develop new entries in the series. It wouldn’t be surprising if they continue using similar language during future Q&A sessions.
Although a brand new Mega Man game might be unlikely, there’s a chance we may encounter more compilation games in the future. Capcom has opted to keep the Mega Man series relevant by releasing collections of older titles, which have been made accessible to modern gamers. However, some significant games are yet to make an appearance, with the Mega Man Legends series being one of the most notable absentees. A compilation game featuring both Mega Man Legends games and The Misadventures of Tron Bonne would undoubtedly delight fans, and perhaps distract them from the continued silence regarding the series’ resurgence.
At present, it seems Mega Man is taking a break, but Capcom has some significant projects lined up for next year without him. The highly anticipated “Resident Evil Requiem” is slated for early 2026, marking the return of the numbered series since 2021. Moreover, Capcom’s long-awaited project, “Pragmata“, also appears to be releasing next year, a new IP in their portfolio. In addition to these, fans can look forward to ongoing support for “Street Fighter 6” and “Monster Hunter Wilds”. Capcom is also working on a sequel to “Okami“, though it seems the game might be several years away from hitting the shelves.
