A reliable source within Capcom has shared some news regarding a long-awaited update on a remake for Resident Evil. Fans have been delighted with the remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4. While many anticipate the remake of Resident Evil 5 to come next, recent whispers suggest that Capcom might be planning to remake Resident Evil 0 followed by Resident Evil Code: Veronica X HD instead. This means we may not see a Resident Evil 5 remake soon, unless Capcom intends to remake Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 at some point. However, the original Resident Evil game seems to be in an unusual position. Initially, when Capcom embarked on this remake journey, they jumped straight to Resident Evil 2, possibly due to its high popularity. Now, it appears that the first Resident Evil game might not be part of their immediate plans.
Based on what we’ve heard, AestheticGamer – who works at Capcom – supports earlier whispers by stating that, as of now, they are not creating a remake for the initial Resident Evil game.
From my perspective, here’s what I’ve gathered and recently heard: At this moment, there are no mainline remakes in active development. However, what we can expect in the near future are remakes for Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica. While I believe that a Resident Evil 1 remake is inevitable, it’s not something we’ll see in the next few years, and as far as I know, it’s not currently being developed at this time.
Currently, AestheticGamer is recognized for his reliable leaks and reports about Resident Evil, with many of these predictions proving accurate. Yet, he does occasionally miss the mark as well. Those eagerly awaiting a modern remake of the first Resident Evil game can only hope that this latest report falls under the category of his successful predictions.
It’s important to mention that the initial Resident Evil game did receive a remake in 2002 through the Nintendo GameCube, but it hasn’t had a contemporary remake yet. Despite the GameCube version surpassing the 1996 PlayStation 1 original, it pales in comparison to modern remakes. Essentially, another remake could be beneficial.
