Capcom has a lot of exciting game news to share, and I’m eager to find out when they’ll announce it.
Man, Capcom is on fire right now! It feels like it really kicked off with Resident Evil 7 back in 2017, and honestly, they’ve been one of the best game publishers for the last ten years. They just keep knocking it out of the park!
Honestly, Pragmata just keeps blowing up! It came out last month and everyone’s loving it – the reviews are amazing and it’s already got a huge player base. The hype just hasn’t stopped!
I’m not expecting any completely new game announcements. Capcom has already released three fantastic games this year – Resident Evil Requiem, Monster Hunter Stories 3, and Pragmata – so I doubt they’ll have any major surprises to reveal.
Even so, this company still has a lot more going on than most others in the gaming industry.
Let’s break it down…
We’re expecting to hear a release date for the upcoming Onimusha: Way of the Sword very soon. The game has looked fantastic since it was first announced, and now fans are eagerly awaiting news on when they can play it.
Capcom will be sharing details about the Monster Hunter Wilds expansion this summer. While the game initially sold very well, it hasn’t quite met Capcom’s overall expectations, making this expansion a particularly important release for them.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 has been shrouded in secrecy, but the developers have recently begun to share more details, lifting the veil of mystery.
If Capcom isn’t deliberately frustrating fans, it’s almost certain they’re developing downloadable content for the game, and it could be exactly what this open-world RPG needs to get back on track.
While those are the three major releases, there’s also additional content coming. Resident Evil: Requiem is getting new downloadable content, and Street Fighter 6 is planning a fourth season. Rumors suggest that season will include Tifa from Final Fantasy 7 as a playable character, which would be incredibly exciting!
There’s a lot of talk about a new Devil May Cry game, and while I don’t expect Capcom to make a big announcement this year, I’m pretty sure they’re working on one in secret.
I’m predicting we’ll hear about all of this – except for Devil May Cry – next week. PlayStation’s State of Play is on June 2nd, and Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest follows shortly after on June 5th, so it’s a likely timeframe for announcements.
Capcom has the option of sharing news at existing gaming events or holding its own presentation. They haven’t announced any plans yet, but the current buzz suggests they could definitely host a dedicated showcase of their own.
To be honest, it makes more sense to let bigger events with wider audiences announce most of this news. We should find out soon – if any of these announcements happen during next week’s State of Play, we’ll know the plan.
