I’ve been a huge fan of Chris Evans as Captain America for over ten years now. He just *was* the heart of the Avengers, always there to lead them through everything, from the Battle of New York to the fight with Thanos. When he seemingly retired in *Avengers: Endgame*, passing the shield to Sam Wilson, it felt like a truly final goodbye to an iconic character. But honestly, with Marvel’s Multiverse getting so wild, I’ve learned to expect the unexpected! Now, with *Avengers: Doomsday* coming out in December 2026, everyone’s buzzing about whether they’ll somehow bring his Captain America back, potentially undoing that emotional ending we got in *Endgame*.
Although there’s been talk of a surprise appearance by a famous actor to attract viewers, recent rumors indicate Steve Rogers might not be finished with his story after all. It seems his character could still return.
It Is Not a Sure Thing That Chris Evans Is Done With Captain America

Rumors are swirling that Chris Evans might return as Captain America, even after his apparent farewell. Many fans expect at least a quick appearance in *Avengers: Doomsday*, similar to his recent cameo in *Deadpool & Wolverine* (though as the Human Torch, not Captain America). Alex Perez, a well-known source of Marvel news and speculation from *The Cosmic Circus*, recently addressed this possibility. When a fan asked if Evans was truly finished playing Steve Rogers, Perez hinted that Cap’s story might not be over, simply stating, “Don’t count Cap out just yet.”
This brief line hints at exciting future plans for Chris Evans’ Captain America within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, potentially going beyond just a cameo. Recent photos of Evans looking fit have only strengthened the idea that he might return to the role in a significant way.
Given the recent storylines about threats from different universes and alternate realities, it would be a great chance to give a popular character a more important role. Some fans felt his ending in *Endgame* didn’t quite do his story justice. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has shown it’s willing to bring back beloved characters – like Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), and notably Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom – for more than just brief appearances, so revisiting this character would fit the pattern.
This new version of Captain America, potentially from another universe, might be how they bring back John Walker (Evan’s character) and could be crucial in the fight against Doctor Doom. Whether he’s a different Steve Rogers, the original, or a version from another timeline, his return would excite fans and give the MCU a strong emotional center as it tackles its biggest story yet. It looks like Captain America’s story isn’t finished after all.
