Four years ago, the initial season of Squid Game burst onto Netflix streaming charts and soon became one of their most successful shows. Given its acclaim, it wasn’t unexpected that an American adaptation was being developed. Now, as we approach the final season of Squid Game, the series finale hinted at a well-known actress joining the cast – potentially paving the way for her role in the anticipated American spinoff. Recently, Cate Blanchett has shared some insights about her surprise appearance in the last episode and whether it implies her involvement in the upcoming spinoff.
During an interview with Variety, Cate Blanchett shared her enthusiasm for exploring television further and delved into how she found herself involved in the final episode of ‘Squid Game.’ The actress revealed that the opportunity unexpectedly came her way, and she had to swiftly learn the game and practice extensively since it’s a popular series being filmed in Los Angeles. She mentioned that secrecy surrounded the production as everyone was kept informed only when necessary. Receiving some storyboards, Blanchett knew what each shot required, received scripts for specific scenes (sides), and described her experience working on ‘Squid Game’ as one of the more enigmatic roles she’s had.
The actress, who brought her own costume for the filming, subsequently revealed her enthusiasm about potential involvement in an American adaptation. At present, her brief appearance in “Squid Game” has merely been a cameo with no further commitments. Yet, she’s kept open to possibilities for the future. In response to the wonderfully captivating world of this series, she shared, “I am widely receptive to any opportunity. And indeed, in a realm so brilliantly, enchantingly crafted like that, absolutely. They’re extraordinary world-builders, and this show has been devoured with immense enthusiasm worldwide. I don’t believe there’s a region on Earth that it hasn’t left an impact on in some way.
Will Cate Blanchett Lead Squid Game‘s American Spinoff?
Last year, news broke about an American adaptation of the popular series “Squid Game.” Initially, it was mentioned that renowned filmmaker Darren Aronofsky might be part of this venture. However, since then, details about the project have been scarce. It’s worth noting that the original creator and producer of “Squid Game,” Hwang Dong-hyuk, did not design the series finale with the idea of spawning an American spinoff in mind. Instead, the conclusion was intended by Dong-hyuk to signify that even if one system collapses, another might just rise in its place.
Although Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed plans for an American version of the popular show Squid Game featuring Cate Blanchett, it’s uncertain if her cameo will be more than a brief reference to the games themselves. In the meantime, fans can look forward to the second season of Squid Game: The Challenge, a reality TV adaptation, premiering in November. For now, you can stream all three seasons of Squid Game exclusively on Netflix.
