Today marks 43 years since the release of The Dark Crystal on December 17, 1982. This film, directed by Jim Henson and Frank Oz, is often hailed as a masterpiece. It was truly unique for its time – a large-scale movie made entirely without human actors, relying instead on incredibly detailed and innovative puppets and animatronics to create its fantastical world. While now considered a landmark fantasy film, it didn’t initially receive great reviews and, surprisingly, was a box office failure.

Many games get stuck in development for years, like BioShock 4, but Dead Island 2 actually made it through. It was first announced at E3 in 2014 with a stunning trailer, and was originally planned for release in 2015. Developers even showed it off to the press at Gamescom. They had big plans for an eight-player co-op mode, but the project ran into a lot of problems, delaying the game for nearly ten years. At one point, it seemed like it would never come out, but the team kept working on it, and now the series will continue with a sequel.

As a lifelong fan of Doctor Who, I’ve seen a lot of regenerations – ever since William Hartnell became Patrick Troughton way back in 1966 with “The Tenth Planet.” Over the years, what used to be a fairly simple transition has become a huge event. Originally titled Hyakka Ryoran in Japanese, the English version is called In Bloom and is available on YouTube as a collaborative video.
