Elden Ring movie’s 160-page script was written on spec by 28 Days Later scribe Alex Garland to win over game creator Hidetaka Miyazaki

According to a recent article in The New Yorker, the live-action adaptation of an upcoming film was proposed to Noah Sacco, head of A24 films, directly by Garland. To gain support from Miyazaki, Garland wrote a script on spec (without a contract). This script spans 160 pages, along with an additional 40 pages of visual content. Subsequently, both Garland and Sacco traveled to Japan to finalize the deal with FromSoftware and Bandai Namco Entertainment.
