Fortunately, Stephen Colbert already has his next project in the works, and it’s a major one: a new Lord of the Rings movie! He’s co-writing The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past with his son, Peter McGee, and experienced screenwriter Philippa Boyens. The story takes place 14 years after Frodo leaves Middle-earth, following Samwise Gamgee, Merry Brandybuck, and Pippin Took as they revisit the beginning of their original journey. Sam’s daughter, Elanor, uncovers a hidden secret that suggests the War of the Ring could have been lost before it even started. While this movie might seem like a departure from Colbert’s usual work, he brings a unique skillset to the project.

Honestly, the biggest surprise for me wasn’t a plot twist, but how these two Force-sensitive characters were introduced. It’s genuinely shocking they weren’t part of the Skywalker Saga or any of the original films. In fact, I’d argue they have the best master-apprentice introduction of any Star Wars story – and it happened on the Ahsoka series, completely out of the blue. It’s a fantastic moment that really elevates the show.

The film First Man stars Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong, and tells the story of the years leading up to and including the Apollo 11 mission. It explores the personal sacrifices Armstrong and those around him made during this challenging time. Directed by Damien Chazelle, who previously worked with Gosling on La La Land, First Man came after Chazelle won an Academy Award for Best Director. While it didn’t achieve major Oscar success, many consider it one of the best films of its year – a powerful and emotional story about the incredible things science can achieve, even with its uncertainties. This makes First Man a fantastic pairing with the novel Project Hail Mary.

The first season of Love Story chronicles the romance between Carolyn Bessette (Sarah Pidgeon) and John F. Kennedy Jr. (Paul Kelly), detailing how they became a highly publicized celebrity couple before their tragic deaths in 1999. Bessette was just 33 years old when she died, and the series offers a dramatized portrayal of her life as a Calvin Klein executive and her entry into the world of the Kennedy family.

As a huge fan of Frank Herbert’s Dune, I can tell you the books are famously complex! The story follows Paul Atreides – Timothée Chalamet plays him in Denis Villeneuve’s films – and it’s incredible to watch him transform from the son of a noble family into the emperor of everything. Along the way, he encounters so many fascinating groups – the Fremen who live in the desert, the mysterious Bene Gesserit sisterhood, the Mentats who are basically human computers, and the truly awful House Harkonnen. There’s sandworm riding, encounters with babies who are unbelievably advanced, and learning about the Spice Melange, which can give you the power to see the future. And if you thought that was a lot, the upcoming Dune: Part Three is going to add even more to the mix, like the Bene Tleilax, who can literally change their faces!

The famous Norwegian detective Harry Hole was previously portrayed by Michael Fassbender in the film The Snowman, which was unfortunately a critical and commercial failure. A new series now stars Tobias Santelmann as Harry, who is still haunted by a five-year-old unsolved case involving a series of brutal bank robberies. He’s also currently investigating a serial killer in Oslo who leaves pentagram-shaped gems at the scenes of their crimes.

While the show Once Upon a Time was on a mid-season break, Disney launched a new, more daring fantasy series called Galavant. Created by Dan Fogelman (known for This Is Us) and featuring original music by Alan Menken of Disney, Galavant is a quick and fun binge-watch for anyone who enjoys fantasy, with only two seasons.

I’ve always been drawn to vampire stories, and it’s amazing how they’ve evolved! While a lot of the classic vampire films are genuinely scary, these legends are just so compelling that they’ve popped up in all kinds of movies now. Honestly, no matter what I’m in the mood for – a sweet romance or a really thrilling action flick – I can almost always find a movie with a vampire in it. It’s really cool to see how adaptable the myth is!

Although Ocarina of Time established the blueprint for 3D Zelda games, Majora’s Mask is a truly unique experience. It surpasses Ocarina of Time with its more compelling story, inventive concepts, and a noticeably darker, more unsettling atmosphere – something rarely seen in Nintendo titles.
