Okay, so I’m a bit of a film buff and I remember when this Channing Tatum movie totally flopped in theaters back in 2009 – it was a real bomb! But get this, it’s now surprisingly popular on Paramount+. According to FlixPatrol, it’s actually climbing the charts and is currently fighting for the #5 spot in their top 10 streaming list. It’s wild to see a movie do so well after failing so hard initially!
Starring Channing Tatum, Terrence Howard, and Zuley Henoa, this film follows Shawn, a struggling hustler in New York City. When veteran con man Harvey Boarden recognizes Shawn’s natural talent for fighting, he sees a chance to make money and begins training him. Shawn quickly rises through the ranks of the bare-knuckle fighting world, defeating opponent after opponent. However, when he decides he wants to leave the dangerous circuit, he discovers his biggest challenge is yet to come.
Critics And Fans Alike Think This Movie Lost The Fight
The movie Fighting received largely negative reviews, scoring only 40% on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer and 36% on the Popcornmeter. Critics generally found it lacking in substance. Peter Canavese of Groucho Reviews gave it 2 out of 4 stars, noting it was ultimately forgettable despite some effort. Anthony Quinn of The Independent praised the fight scenes and Channing Tatum’s performance, but criticized the shallow character development and mumbling dialogue. Grant Lauchlan of The Daily Record called it pointless and suggested viewers watch Rocky instead.
Most general viewers strongly disliked the film, with many writing harsh reviews. One viewer called it a “MMA suckfest,” criticizing the lack of good fight scenes and comparing it unfavorably to another movie. They also disliked the acting and script, stating they couldn’t stay engaged for more than ten minutes. Another viewer expressed complete indifference after watching, saying it left them with no emotional response whatsoever and felt like a waste of time. They simply thought, ‘Well, that sure was a movie,’ before dismissing it.
