A new Amazon Super Bowl ad features Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky showing off the upgraded Amazon Alexa, known as Alexa+. The commercial playfully addresses fears about AI by imagining a funny, worst-case scenario with the new assistant – it even brings to mind the villain Ultron from the Marvel movies.
Chris Hemsworth is afraid of Amazon Alexa in new ad
I just saw the new Super Bowl ad, and it’s hilarious! It opens with Chris Hemsworth walking in on his wife, Elsa Pataky, having a really casual conversation with their Alexa+. It’s a funny setup right away!
He immediately suspects the AI is trying to harm him. His mind quickly conjures up frightening scenarios – Alexa locking him inside, causing mishaps at the pool, sending a bear to his door, or even destroying his home.
He describes Alexa as switching between feeling like a helpful, intelligent assistant and something potentially unsettling. Meanwhile, Pataky remains calm and fully trusts Alexa, even when it makes surprising announcements, like telling them their car has arrived.
The ad demonstrates how helpful Alexa+ can be – it simplifies game day, suggests meal ideas, provides real-time scores, and even lets you control your Fire TV with just your voice.
In the end, Alexa suggests booking a massage and a cinnamon scrub for Hemsworth, which is what convinces him. He stops and says, “Wait, you can do that? I do love a cinnamon scrub.” The commercial uses Hemsworth’s history as a superhero and anxieties about AI, but ultimately shows how Alexa+ simply makes daily life more convenient, not more frightening.
Amazon has announced that Alexa+ is now available nationwide for all Prime members at no additional cost. You can start using it simply by saying, “Alexa, upgrade to Alexa+,” or by logging into your account at Alexa.com.
Customers who aren’t Amazon Prime members can try Alexa+ for free by using the chat feature on Alexa.com or through the Alexa app.
