Christopher Abbott is counting his blessings.
Emma Stone recently discussed how she’s getting ready to have a baby with Aubrey Plaza, following Plaza’s pregnancy announcement in April.
On the May 18th episode of Today, Jenna Bush Hager started to congratulate Christopher on his new baby, but he pointed out he’s also thankful for other recent achievements.
She joked, ‘I briefly thought this was about my Tony Award nomination!’ Then she added with a laugh, ‘Just kidding, of course. There’s a lot happening right now.’
Christopher, a Tony Award nominee this year for his role in Death of a Salesman, responded to the pregnancy announcement with, “That’s wonderful, thank you. We’re very excited.”
Oh my gosh, I’m SO thrilled for Aubrey and Chris! It was just last month we found out they’re expecting, and honestly, it feels like fate. I know she went through so much after losing Jeff Baena in 2025, but she deserves all the happiness in the world. And it’s not like this came out of nowhere – they’ve been working together for YEARS! I first noticed their chemistry in Black Bear back in 2020, and then seeing them together on stage in that Danny and the Deep Blue Sea revival in 2023… sparks were FLYING! I just knew something was brewing, and now a baby?! It’s perfect!
Now that Aubrey and her family are growing, she’s excited to discover everything about being a mother.
She mentioned on the April 20th episode of the SmartLess podcast that she’s always been curious about it, finding the whole idea really interesting.

Oh my gosh, it’s just so amazing to see how much Aubrey Plaza’s mom, Bernadette, really shaped who she is! Bernadette was a beauty queen, can you believe it? And Aubrey’s talked about how seeing her mom’s career totally influenced her choices, it’s just… everything makes so much sense now! It’s like, you see her characters and you understand where that confidence and unique vibe comes from. It’s just the sweetest thing, honestly.
In a 2023 interview with Vanity Fair, she described feeling a strong family history of creativity, almost like it’s in her genes. She said many relatives are incredibly creative, which deeply moves her. She feels fortunate to have the resources to pursue her own creativity, but also a sense of responsibility, as if it’s something she was destined to do.
Aubrey now feels ready to continue her family’s traditions, honoring both her mother’s heritage and her father, David Plaza’s, roots in Puerto Rico.
It means a lot to me to make my family proud, especially because so many of them helped raise me. I had a lot of influences growing up, but a strong sense of family always connected everyone. Despite any mistakes or difficulties, we always supported each other and remembered where we came from.

Aubrey Plaza and Christopher Abbott first appeared together on screen in 2019, playing a married couple in the second part of the independent film Black Bear.
The actor, known for their work on Parks and Recreation, also produced this complex and emotional drama. They told The Los Angeles Times in 2021 that the project was a passion project.
The first part of the movie centers around filmmaker Allison (Aubrey), who is struggling with writer’s block. She retreats to a lake house and tries to inspire herself by subtly influencing her married hosts, Blair (Sarah Gadon) and Gabe (Christopher).
In the second part of the film, titled “The Bear by the Boat House,” Allison plays an actress whose husband, director Gabe, subjects her to abuse as part of his artistic vision.
She shared that taking on this movie felt risky because it would likely be emotionally difficult. Over the years, she’s found that drawing on her own life experiences and challenges helps her process and heal, and she approached this film with that in mind.

Aubrey Plaza and Christopher Abbott previously acted together in the film Black Bear, and later starred alongside each other in the 2023 Off-Broadway play Danny and the Deep Blue Sea. Aubrey particularly enjoyed working with Christopher during the show’s eleven-week run.
She described her ideal scene partner as someone who is both engaged and detached, telling The New York Times in September 2023 that this combination creates a fun, safe, and relaxed environment. She enjoys playful improvisation and a lighthearted approach, finding it difficult to find collaborators who can balance seriousness and silliness.

Oh my gosh, Christopher was just gushing about his co-star! He told the New York Times that they just get each other, saying they’re both totally comfortable being goofy, weird, and just… themselves. It’s the cutest! They aren’t afraid to be a little messy and strange, and honestly, that’s what makes their chemistry so amazing. I knew it! They’re perfect together!

Aubrey shared that she nearly wrote to Christopher at the beginning of making Black Bear, encouraging him to be in the film. But she decided not to, and thankfully, he ended up joining the project anyway.
“In my opinion,” she told Vulture in November 2023, “he’s the best male actor in our country today.”

Aubrey and her husband, Jeff Baena, were together for 14 years before he passed away in January 2025. She has spoken before about the challenges of living her life publicly.
In a 2021 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she admitted that celebrity and the attention that comes with it are intimidating. She explained that her way of coping is to try and find humor in those situations, even if it means she appears a little eccentric.
It also meant she occasionally had to talk about difficult personal experiences, such as coping with the grief after her husband, Jeff, tragically took his own life following a private separation of over three years.
While talking with Amy Poehler on her podcast, Good Hang, in August 2025, she described her grief as being similar to the feeling evoked by the horror movie The Gorge. She explained that it felt like being constantly surrounded by overwhelming sadness, a feeling so intense she sometimes wished she could simply give in to it.
She explained that sometimes she simply stared at it, while at other times she desperately tried to avoid it. But no matter what, it was always present, constantly lingering in her awareness.

Aubrey’s representative announced on April 7, 2026, that the actress, known for My Old Ass, is pregnant with her first child with Christopher. She quickly followed up by sharing details about her pregnancy.
She announced on the April 20, 2026, episode of the SmartLess podcast that she is pregnant. ‘Today was a big day – I went to the doctor today,’ she said.
She shared that she’s always been curious about becoming a mother, finding the experience itself fascinating.

Aubrey and Christopher were first seen together as a couple just two days after news of Aubrey’s pregnancy became public. They attended an after-party for the Broadway premiere of The Death of a Salesman, a play in which Christopher plays the role of Biff Loman.
