There’s a growing buzz that classic Pokémon games might be making a comeback on the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. Nintendo will host its yearly “Pokémon Presents” showcase on February 27th, and this year’s event is expected to be bigger than usual because it marks Pokémon’s 30th anniversary. Recently, a hint surfaced that could give us a sneak peek at what will be announced.
According to a reliable Pokemon leaker (@Riddler_Khu on X who has accurately shared information before), Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen are expected to return soon. The leaker only shared an image of the two games, hinting at their comeback. While it’s assumed these games will be playable on the Nintendo Switch or the upcoming Switch 2, it’s currently unclear whether they will be released as simple ports, full remakes, or in another form.

How likely is a remake of Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen? It actually makes a lot of sense! 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the Pokemon series, and The Pokemon Company might want to celebrate by revisiting the games that began it all. While FireRed and LeafGreen aren’t the very first Pokemon games – they’re remakes of Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue – they’re widely considered excellent remakes that fans still love. Bringing these games to newer Nintendo systems would be a big success.
We don’t know if a big new Pokémon game will come out in 2026. Although some people think the next generation, Generation 10, might be released later this year, it’s not certain. To keep fans engaged until the next main Pokémon game, The Pokémon Company might remake the classic FireRed and LeafGreen versions.
If Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen come to new systems, it makes us wonder how they’ll be released. Nintendo could either create completely new versions for the Switch, or they could add the games to the existing Game Boy Advance library available through the Switch Online service.
Right now, we have more questions than solid information about this Pokémon rumor, so it’s best to be skeptical. If the leak is real, we should learn more in the next few weeks.
