Colin Farrell and the directing duo known as the Russo Brothers—both major players in the worlds of DC and Marvel films—are joining forces on a new project that isn’t connected to either of those universes. Though Farrell is currently working on The Batman Part Two and the Russo Brothers are focused on Avengers: Doomsday, they’re also collaborating on a completely separate comic book movie.
Colin Farrell, known for his role as The Penguin, is set to star in a new film called Ordained. The movie is based on a comic book series from Bad Idea and is being developed by the Russo brothers’ production company, AGBO. Several film studios and streaming services are competing to acquire the rights to the project.

Colin Farrell will portray Father Roy Craig, a priest who gives last rites to a dying mob boss. Surprisingly, the mob boss recovers, but since he already confessed his crimes to Father Roy, the priest now becomes a problem the mob boss needs to eliminate.
Father Roy has unexpectedly become the target of killers, gangsters, and crooked police officers who want to stop him from speaking out. What they don’t realize is that Father Roy has a hidden, violent history, making him a much more formidable opponent than they anticipate. While he intends to uphold the Ten Commandments and avoid taking a life, he’s not afraid to inflict pain if necessary.
Robert Venditti, known for his work on Planet Death, teamed up with artist Trevor Hairsine (DCeased), colorist Dave Stewart (Hellboy), and letterer D.C. Hopkins (Something Epic) to create Ordained. The first issue arrives on December 10th, and details about the story are below.
Father Royston Craig didn’t become a priest until later in life, but he’s dedicated to serving his community. In addition to his work at his church in St. Louis, he provides last rites to patients at a local hospital.
Father Roy received a late-night call to administer last rites to Cormac Byrne, a man not expected to live through the night. Like many facing death, Byrne hadn’t practiced his faith in years. What began as a seemingly simple confession quickly revealed a dark history of violence and murder. It turned out Byrne wasn’t just anyone – he was the leader of the Irish mafia. Despite the gravity of Byrne’s sins, Father Roy offered absolution, allowing the man to pass peacefully… or so he thought. The next morning, Byrne made an astonishing recovery, defying all medical expectations.
Byrne has recovered but quickly falls back into his criminal life, needing to finish some unfinished business. His top priority? Eliminate the priest who knows the location of all the hidden bodies. However, Father Roy isn’t who he seems. Byrne will soon discover that Father Royston Craig was once a Navy SEAL named Royston Craig, who turned to religion during his time in combat. Now, Father Roy must fight off dangerous gangsters, crooked police officers, and his own personal struggles to stay alive. He’ll be forced to use the violent skills he thought he’d left behind, but he refuses to take a life, even to save his own.
As much as I’m eagerly awaiting the next Batman film and hearing about Ordained, right now we don’t have confirmed release dates for either of those. The good news is, we do know when Avengers: Doomsday is coming – mark your calendars for December 18th, 2026! I’ve already set a reminder.
