Colours of Time – REVIEW

We haven’t received a lawyer’s letter about an inheritance, and we certainly won’t be getting rich. We imagine there are two children in Montecito who will inherit very little – probably just old jam, recordings of a forgotten podcast, and faded photos of their mother’s past. This new film, ‘Colours of Time,’ presents a similar situation: dozens of strangers are called to Paris to discuss the estate of Adele Meunier (played by Suzanna Lindon), a relative they didn’t even know existed.

So, I heard about this really strange job – a big company wants to demolish this old cottage to build a mall, but legally they need four people to go in, document everything inside first. That’s where Seb, a content creator, Celine, a businesswoman about to retire, Abdel, a teacher who honestly feels like a John Turturro character come to life, and Guy, a beekeeper, come in. The cottage is a mess, totally run down – unlike my super-organized shed, apparently! Inside, it’s not exactly treasure; mostly unpaid bills and old magazines. But scattered amongst the junk are photos and letters, and then… this incredible Impressionist painting. It might actually be a lost masterpiece, which is just wild!

The movie then divides into multiple storylines, flashing back to Adele’s past. After her grandmother’s death, Adele travels to Paris to find her mother, Odette (Sara Giraudeau). Odette has built a life working at a Parisian establishment reminiscent of a bygone era – a brothel that feels like a historical version of a reality show like Love Island.

The film jumps between past and present, revealing Adele’s story gradually through clever transitions. This is interwoven with stories of people inspired by her: Celine and Guy’s blossoming relationship, Abdel’s worries about retiring, and Seb’s romantic dilemma – choosing between a superficial influencer and a promising young musician he’s filming.

This is a warm and comforting film that beautifully focuses on the connections between people. It’s a pleasant story to watch as Adele learns about her father, offering a reassuring and heartwarming experience.
