Get ready, soccer fans! The World Cup is coming to ITV, meaning your favorite soaps, Coronation Street and Emmerdale, will be temporarily put on hold.
Some daytime dramas will be changing from their current 30-minute format, which began in January, on certain days.
The decision to shorten the show from six episodes a week to five, each lasting 30 minutes and airing weeknights at 8pm, was made to create a more reliable viewing schedule for audiences.
Kevin Lygo, ITV’s head of Media and Entertainment, explained that they think this episode count is perfect for viewers, allowing them to easily stay current with the series.
Studies reveal that soap opera fans now expect fast-moving plots. Shorter, 30-minute episodes, designed for streaming, are better at delivering the quick storylines, satisfying conclusions, and resolutions viewers want.
Since then, the soap operas have faced a lot of disruption, and the next few weeks will likely be just as chaotic.
To allow viewers to watch England’s match against Spain in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, new episodes of Coronation Street and Emmerdale won’t air on Friday, June 5th.
Live coverage of the World Cup qualifier will be aired instead on ITV1 instead.
Don’t worry, our show will be back on Sunday, June 7th, between 8 and 9 PM. However, on Tuesday, June 9th, it will be off the air due to the England vs. Ukraine Women’s European Qualifier.
On Wednesday 10 June, Emmerdale will air at the earlier time of 7pm, followed by Corrie at 7.30pm.
There will be no soaps at all as a result of the opening ceremony on Thursday 11 June.
The schedule changes significantly on Friday, June 12th, with both Emmerdale and Coronation Street returning to their hour-long slots. Emmerdale will begin at 8pm, followed by Coronation Street at 9pm.
You can watch Emmerdale weeknights at 8pm and Coronation Street at 8:30pm on ITV1. Both shows are also available to stream on ITVX from 7am each day.
