Stranger Things stars to reunite in new Netflix movie based on best-selling novel

Netflix is adding even more well-known actors to the cast of its upcoming thriller series, “The God of the Woods,” which is based on Liz Moore’s popular novel.

Maya Hawke, known for her role in Stranger Things, was previously confirmed to star in the upcoming multi-generational drama. She joins Kerry Condon (Better Call Saul) and Ella Rubin (The Girl from Plainville) in the cast.

Fans can expect a bit of a ‘Stranger Things’ get-together, as Nell Fisher has been confirmed to play Barbara Van Laar, a key character who goes missing during a summer camp trip.

The young actor is taking on a complex character – a rebellious, artistic teenager who carries themselves with a surprising level of maturity, likely due to having faced difficult choices at a young age. It sounds like a challenging and realistic role.

This series unfolds in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State, revealing the hidden secrets and social divides within the Van Laar family. The story centers around the puzzling disappearance of 13-year-old Barbara Van Laar from her family’s summer camp, and suggests this event is connected to a past tragedy.

The story goes on to show how the Van Laar family’s fortune and status begin to fall apart as secrets from the past come to light, exposing the negative effects of their advantages and how they misused their power.

Joining the cast are Damon Gupton, known for his role in ‘The Big Door Prize’; Susannah Perkins, from ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’; Benjamin Walker, who starred in ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’; and young actress Autumn Molina.

Gupton will play Denny Hayes, the captain of the Bureau of Criminal Investigations, as he adjusts to working with his new partner, Judy Luptack, played by Hawke. Luptack is the first female investigator in the BCI.

Perkins will play TJ Hewitt, the director of the summer camp. Walker will be Peter Van Laar III, a rich and influential man married to Alice Condon, and they’re both struggling with the disappearance of their daughter. Molina will play a fellow camper who is determined to help find Barbara.

The series is co-created by the author of the original book, Moore, who also writes and executive produces alongside Liz Hannah, known for her work on Mindhunter. While there’s no confirmed release date yet, many expect ‘The God of the Woods’ to be a popular new show on Netflix.
