As a long-time Coronation Street fan, I have to say, I was really shocked and upset to learn that Debbie Webster is going to be diagnosed with young-onset dementia. It’s a storyline that’s gotten a lot of reaction, and honestly, it’s heartbreaking to think about Sue Devaney’s character going through that.
The hotel owner was dealing with frightening memory problems. After seeing a doctor privately, her concerns were sadly confirmed.
Debbie has been tricked by her brother, Carl, into believing she’s losing her mental sharpness. He’s doing this so she’ll let him take over the finances of her companies.

In last night’s episode, she courageously shared news of her health with a few hotel guests. Afterwards, she enjoyed a fun and lively afternoon with several women from Weatherfield.
The group had a fun and lighthearted encounter with a police officer in the Freshco parking lot, complete with Debbie playfully sitting in a shopping cart.
Coronation Street writer Jonathan Harvey posted a photo of the show’s female stars on social media, hinting at how long the current storyline about dementia might continue.
I wrote the second part of tonight’s Coronation Street episode, and I’m really pleased with how it turned out!
Debbie and her close friends enjoyed drinks, laughter, and a chance to connect. It was wonderful to be part of an episode celebrating female friendship and to film it with such talented women from Coronation Street.
Over the next few years, as Debbie’s dementia gets worse, she’ll really need the support of Debbie’s Angels to help her cope.

Although fans will continue to see this beloved character at least through 2027, and potentially for even longer, its continuation hasn’t been without difficulties.
Besides experiencing increasing memory loss, a sudden death will deeply affect the Webster family this Christmas. However, there will also be a joyful occasion, as she marries Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan).
Despite the excitement, this event could lead to problems, as it seems likely to be the starting point for the planned crossover episode between Coronation Street and Emmerdale, nicknamed ‘Corriedale’.
Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper), the wedding planner in the Dales, has talked about a demanding bride in Manchester who wants a choir at her wedding. Interestingly, Debbie has mentioned a similar situation in her own storyline.
