Everyone agrees that Crimson Desert is visually stunning. Its impressive graphics, including detailed textures, long viewing distances, and realistic weather, make it a strong contender for the best-looking game of the year. A recent preview from Digital Foundry now shows us exactly how good it can look on computers.
Pearl Abyss showed Digital Foundry gameplay footage running on a high-end PC with an AMD Ryzen 7900X3D processor, a Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card, and 32GB of DDR5 RAM. The game used V-Sync and AMD’s FSR technology set to its highest quality (Ultra), which also turned on advanced weather effects and ray tracing. Digital Foundry observed a frame rate mostly staying at 60 frames per second, with occasional dips in some areas, but noted that the build was still under development.
As a fan, I have to say the lighting in this is incredible! They’re using ray tracing for a really soft, natural glow everywhere – even from something simple like a torch inside a building. The reflections are cool too, blending different techniques depending on what you’re looking at and how far away it is. But honestly, the water is the thing that really blew me away. The way it moves and looks… you just have to see it to believe how detailed it is!
Surprisingly, Ultra isn’t the best graphics setting – Cinematic is! It’s still unclear exactly how much better Cinematic will make the game look, but you also have the options of Low, Medium, and High if you prefer those.
Crimson Desert will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC starting March 19th. Pearl Abyss has announced that the game will also support the new PlayStation 5 Pro when it launches, though performance details for the standard consoles haven’t been released yet.
