The incredibly popular anime series Attack on Titan first aired in 2013, based on the highly praised manga by Hajime Isayama. The first three seasons were produced by WIT Studio, but they ultimately had to pass the project to MAPPA due to a challenging production schedule and various difficulties. MAPPA continued the series with stunning animation that matched the story’s quality. While WIT Studio animated the beginning of the story, MAPPA covered the events following the four-year time jump. The series follows Eren, Mikasa Ackerman, and Armin Arlert as they navigate a world threatened by monstrous, human-eating Titans.
Even though the main story is over, the creators continue to offer fans new ways to enjoy the series. Crunchyroll has announced that Attack on Titan: The Last Attack will return to cinemas in the U.S. and Canada on May 18, 2026, as part of its Anime Nights program. This special one-night event will feature the film in Japanese with English subtitles, and tickets are now available through Crunchyroll. The film, originally released in Japan in November 2024, combines the two final episodes of the series.
What’s Next For Attack on Titan?
The story concludes with hints of more to come, but the creator hasn’t announced any plans for a sequel or spin-off. While creating the manga, especially towards the end, the author, Isayama, felt a lot of pressure and struggled with exhaustion due to strict deadlines. Even though the main story is finished, the franchise continues to release new content like artwork and special editions, though there are currently no confirmed plans for a new manga or anime series.
Fans of Attack on Titan are in for a treat! This year marks the first-ever orchestral concert tour for the series, called Attack on Titan: Symphony from Paradis. The tour will kick off in October and travel across the USA, Europe, and Asia. Plus, WIT Studio announced a special monthly art project starting in April, featuring new illustrations of fan-favorite characters by Kyōji Asano.
Asano played a major role in the anime’s first three seasons, handling animation direction, character design, key animation, and the direction of opening and closing sequences. Now, the project will showcase these new visuals in stores and offer them as gifts to fans who purchase merchandise.
I was so excited to start the year with the unexpected theatrical release of a beautifully remastered Attack on Titan: The Final Chapter – The Last Attack! It was a special compilation of the two-part finale, and honestly, given how huge this series is, I have a feeling we’ll be seeing even more amazing projects from the Attack on Titan universe announced soon.
