“Can we tell a human from a toaster?”
Speaking at Consensus Miami 2026, Kokkalis warned that AI is turning the web into a circus of bots. “Soon, your computer will cry ‘I am human!’ while robbing your wallet. It’s like a Shakespearean tragedy… with cookies!”
He argued for systems that ask, “Are you a human?” without making you reveal your social security number or your grandmother’s secret recipes. “In some cases, you need to know who the person is-like when withdrawing money. In others? Just prove you’re not a sock puppet controlled by a 12-year-old in Moldova.”
“The problem,” Kokkalis declared, “is one of the most important infrastructure challenges facing crypto. Second to figuring out why my NFT of a JPEG costs $1 million. Any ideas? No? Never mind.”
Proof-of-Humanity: Beyond the ‘I Owe Taxes’ Check
Kokkalis claims you don’t need to expose your entire soul to prove humanity. “Sometimes, you just need to show you’re not a bot. Like when leaving a five-star review for a restaurant that doesn’t exist. Or voting for a president who does.”
He cited online reviews and voting systems as battlegrounds against fake accounts. “Imagine a world where one person can’t spam 10,000 fake reviews. It’s revolutionary! Or it could be a bot. How do we know?”
Pi Network’s KYC system is like a nosy neighbor who knows your entire life… but now they want to use that nosiness to stop fake accounts. Groundbreaking stuff!
Privacy Without ‘Doxing’ Users: A Fairy Tale?
Kokkalis dreams of privacy-preserving verification. “Why show your entire ID when buying beer? Just prove you’re 21! It’s like a cryptographically signed note that says, ‘You’re old enough,’ without revealing your cat’s name or your address. Because privacy is overrated, right?”
He compared it to showing an ID for a drink. “You hand them your license, and suddenly they know your dental history. It’s a data goldmine! Or a privacy nightmare. Pick your poison.”
AI Pressure: The ‘Are You Human?’ Scam Apocolypse
As AI impersonates your mom calling to say your car’s been towed… again, Kokkalis warns systems must evolve. “Soon, your computer will argue with you about taxes. We need to prove you’re human before it steals your identity. Or your soul. Both are on sale at blockchain.com.”
