Despite the excitement surrounding The Witcher 4, many fans are still eager for news about Project Orion, the next Cyberpunk 2077 game. While series creator Mike Pondsmith didn’t share many specifics during a recent livestream, he hinted that the development team showed him what they’re working on.
Mike Pondsmith, the lore consultant for Cyberpunk 2077, explained that he was heavily involved throughout the game’s development, ensuring the team didn’t make major errors with the established world and story.
Being involved allowed me to share my ideas and help shape the project into what we envisioned. This was especially true for the weapons; we initially imagined sleek, silver guns, but ended up with large, intimidating black weapons. They’re designed to be frightening and powerful, not futuristic or science fiction, but rather raw, brutal tools reflecting their origins, significantly enhanced for impact.
He told the team in Krakow that everyone was attentive and quickly started working to bring his ideas to life. He said people had been consistently asking for his opinion – a practice that continues to this day.
That leads us to Project Orion. During my recent visit to CD Projekt, I got a preview of their plans for the next game, including details about potential TV or radio adaptations. They’ve been consistently seeking my feedback, which suggests they’re staying true to their vision and aiming for familiar results.
The various media like TV and radio in Cyberpunk 2077 weren’t just background noise. They were used to fully immerse players in the game’s gritty, hyper-capitalist world of Night City, and that immersive detail remains impressive even now.
The next Cyberpunk game appears to be set in a new city, which the creator, Mike Pondsmith, describes as a distorted version of Chicago. This change in location could affect the game’s overall presentation. While we’re still waiting for official details, Pondsmith hopes to bring back the character Johnny Silverhand.
