The first season of Daredevil: Born Again faced major changes during production, including a new showrunner and a complete reworking of the story. This resulted in a somewhat uneven season, with serious, intense episodes featuring the rivalry between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk mixed with lighter, seemingly unrelated storylines. While critics and fans noticed these inconsistencies, the strong performances and the return of a popular character helped the season earn an 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The second season, led by showrunner Dario Scardapane from start to finish, feels much more focused and assured. This improvement is reflected in its higher 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes, though viewer numbers suggest a different perspective.
Early viewership numbers for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 show a significant drop compared to Season 1. Through the first five episodes, Season 2 has received 4.5 million views and 10.9 million hours of watch time. In contrast, Season 1 garnered 8.4 million views and 24 million hours watched over the same period. This represents a roughly 46% decrease in views and a 54% decrease in hours watched. Looking at the first week alone, Season 1 drew 1.9 million views and 3.5 million hours watched, while Season 2 only achieved 927,000 views and 788,000 hours. This trend continues each week, with Season 2 consistently receiving about half the engagement of Season 1.

Is the Future of the Street-Level MCU in Danger?

Okay, so it’s a bit weird. Just when it feels like Marvel’s getting back to its grittier, street-level stuff – you know, the Punisher getting his own Disney+ thing in 2026, and hints about a new Jessica Jones show coming relatively soon – viewership is actually down. They’re even shooting Season 3 of Born Again, and photos popped up of Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones all filming together! It’s looking like a full-on Defenders reunion, which is awesome. But honestly, it feels like they’re building this cool, grounded corner of the MCU and people just aren’t as excited about it as they could be. It’s a little frustrating as a fan, because I want this to work!
It’s normal for streaming shows to lose some viewers between seasons, as initial excitement fades. Also, Disney+ doesn’t share complete subscriber numbers, making it hard to fully understand viewership data. However, a 46% drop in views and a 54% drop in watch time for Born Again is much larger than typical seasonal declines. To put that in perspective, even shows that weren’t critically acclaimed, like She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Ms. Marvel, performed better in their first week. While investments in shows like The Punisher special and a potential Jessica Jones project are significant, Season 2’s performance suggests the audience might be smaller than Marvel expected. This puts a lot of pressure on Season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again to prove that this interconnected universe is still worth pursuing.
You can now watch Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+, with new episodes dropping every Tuesday. Season 3 is expected to arrive in 2027.
I’m a bit worried about Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 – it doesn’t seem to be getting the attention it deserves. I’m curious to hear what others think is going on with it. Let’s chat about it over on the ComicBook Forum – come share your thoughts!
