Dark Sci-Fi Remake of 87 Year Old Story Returns for Finale with Exclusive First Look

Award-winning comic book series The O.Z. is back with a new Kickstarter campaign! Imagine The Hurt Locker set in the world of The Wizard of Oz – that’s the exciting idea behind this Ringo Award-winning series, beautifully illustrated by Ruben Rojas. Years after Dorothy Gale’s first visit, she unintentionally set off a chain of events that led to a violent conflict in Oz, with the Scarecrow now a central figure. Now, Dorothy’s granddaughter – a war veteran struggling with trauma – returns to Oz to try and restore peace.

Pepose has launched a Kickstarter campaign for issue #3 of The O.Z., a 44-page comic. To celebrate, ComicBook is sharing an exclusive eleven-page preview of the issue, plus a beautiful pinup featuring Dorothy and the Scarecrow, illustrated by Skylar Patridge, known for their work on Action Comics.

Experience The Wizard of Oz like never before in this fresh, modern reimagining! Writer Pepose (known for Savage Avengers, Space Ghost, and Speed Racer) brings his talent for compelling characters and exciting action to The O.Z. This new take on the classic story finds Dorothy Gale at a difficult point in her life, and follows her journey to becoming a hero of Oz. You’ll still find all the beloved characters you remember – the Cowardly Lion, the Tin Soldier, and the Scarecrow – along for the ride, as you can see in the preview.

Ruben Rojas, known for his work on Proton and New Humanz, has reimagined the world of Oz as a war-torn land where things are rapidly escalating, and the Scarecrow is losing his sanity. Pepose explains, “We’ve been working on The O.Z. for a long time, and we’re excited to finally finish the story on Kickstarter.” They’ve already had great support from over 1,500 backers in previous campaigns, and this third campaign promises an epic conclusion that will appeal to fans of L. Frank Baum’s original Wizard of Oz. Dorothy’s journey isn’t over, but this final chapter will bring the saga to a satisfying end.
