A popular disaster film featuring well-known actors is now available to stream again, two years after it first came out.
Released in 2024, Twisters is a fresh take on the 1996 film Twister, acting as both a reboot and a new story. The movie stars Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Anthony Ramos, and David Corenswet, and centers around a former meteorologist who’s drawn back into the dangerous world of storm chasing in Oklahoma to study a series of powerful tornadoes. Critics have given it a 75% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The movie Twisters earned $372 million in theaters, but when you consider it cost $155 million to make, the profit wasn’t as high as some might expect. Currently, as of February 2nd, Twisters is the 10th most-watched movie in the U.S. on Peacock. It’s right behind the 2026 Best Picture nominee Bugonia, and several movies from The Hunger Games series.
The movie Twisters was popular on streaming in November 2024 when it first launched on Peacock, and it’s back for another run. This comes after a year filled with big action films starring its lead actor, Powell. Since 2024, Powell’s career has taken off, adding roles in Chad Powers and The Running Man to his filmography, with How to Make a Killing on the way.
David Corenswet initially played the villain in the movie Twisters, but he’s now become a major superhero star. He first gained recognition in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series Hollywood, and then landed the role of Superman in the new DC Universe. The 2025 film was a huge success despite a recent trend of declining interest in superhero movies, and it helped Warner Bros. achieve record-breaking box office results.
Following the success of the 2024 film Twisters, talk of a sequel has been growing, and stars like Brandon Powell and Glen Powell have hinted at wanting to reprise their roles. Unlike Twisters, which serves as a continuation of the story from the 1996 movie, this potential sequel would directly follow up on the new characters and storylines introduced in the recent film.
Despite receiving mixed reactions from critics, Twisters was clearly a hit with audiences, earning a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes. This suggests strong interest in a potential sequel and helps the film continue to perform well on streaming platforms, establishing it as a beloved and consistently popular disaster movie.
