Superman‘s Krypto Has a Personal Connection to James Gunn
It’s common knowledge that fans of Superman are aware that Krypto isn’t your typical well-behaved dog. This is due in part to the writer’s personal experiences with his rescue dog, Ozu. During a Puppy Bowl special earlier this year, Gunn revealed that Ozu served as the model for Krypto. Upon joining the Gunn household, Ozu was quite a handful, causing damage to furniture, shoes, and even a laptop.
During this challenging phase that Gunn experienced alongside Ozu, he mused internally, “I wonder how much harder life would be if Ozu possessed superpowers?” This thought eventually led to Krypto’s introduction in Superman, as Gunn put it, “reshaping the narrative just as Ozu was transforming my own life.
Regrettably, due to Krypto’s extraordinary abilities, he cannot maintain friendships with humans (since Gunn mentions that Krypto could inadvertently harm people like mere dogs). Yet, on National Dog Day, Ozu and other earthly canines have the chance to embody their inner superhero Krypto by enjoying these fun products.
