DC’s New Game Just Revealed How To Get An Exclusive Batman Promo

DC’s plans for future video games were a bit unclear, but recent announcements like Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, and upcoming titles such as Batman: Enemies of Gotham City and Batman: Gotham City Crimes, along with a possible new Batman game from Rocksteady, are promising. Plus, a major DC game is scheduled for release this year, and a special Batman promotional card will be available. Here’s how you can get it.

Fans have been waiting for Legendary: A DC Deck Building Game, and it’s coming out later this year! It uses the same popular gameplay as the Marvel version but features characters from the DC Universe. Batman will be playable from the start, and you can get a special Batman card with unique art and a strong attack by pre-ordering directly from the Upper Deck website.

Legendary: A DC Deck Building Game Has Revealed New Heroes, Villains, and Mechanics

A key new feature in the Legendary system is the Hope vs. Fear Tracker, which certain characters can influence. Where the tracker sits – towards Hope or Fear – unlocks special abilities, and Batman’s new card takes advantage of this. When played, this card inspires fear, lets you recruit a sidekick, and then boosts your attack power by one for each fear token present. Considering the card already deals 6 or more damage, this can result in a very powerful attack.

We’ve added more hero and villain cards, so let’s take a look at some of the heroes first. Bruce Wayne becomes The Dark Knight if you have six or more cards in your hand. Hawkgirl lets you remove both her card and another from either your hand or discard pile to earn 2 extra victory points. Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth is also interesting – you tell your opponent whether the top card of the Villain Deck is a villain. If you’re right, you get a +2 bonus to your attack.

The Green Lantern Power Battery and Superman Beacon of Hope (Transformed) both create a feeling of optimism. Superman’s version also gives you extra points – specifically, two Victory Points – if the ‘Hope’ level is already at two or higher. Characters like Starfire can influence emotions too; when playing as her, you pick between representing Earth, which inspires hope, or Tamaran, which creates fear, and each choice leads to different outcomes.

The villains include Lex Luthor, a brilliant strategist who weakens heroes by attacking their hope – and he’s even more powerful in his LexCorp Warsuit with an added +6 attack bonus. Captain Cold is another key villain; he gains a +4 attack bonus against frozen heroes at your HQ. If he lands his Master Strike while heroes are frozen, every player takes damage. Unfreezing those heroes will cost you 2 attack points.

The Joker also has a special ability called Joker Venom. It causes fear twice, and each time, every player reveals a card. If the revealed card is a hero (and not a grey card), that hero is knocked out of the game. Any other cards revealed are simply put back on top of the deck in any order.

Two-Face is a unique card: he gets stronger as players become frightened (+2 attack for each fear token), but also relies on a coin flip. A heads result surprisingly inspires hope, removing one of your heroes from the game! Tails spreads fear, forcing you to remove a Bystander card and sending Two-Face back into action. Other new additions include Bizarro, Black Canary, Martian Manhunter, Gizmo, and The Manhunters – we’re excited to test them all out later this year.
