Death in Paradise makers confirm new thriller series with “rollercoaster ride of twists” after competitive bidding war for book rights

Red Planet Pictures, the company that makes the popular show Death in Paradise and its related series, has secured the rights to adapt Clare Mackintosh’s latest thriller, It’s Not What You Think.

Kam Odedra, a writer known for thrillers like Hijack, Lupin, Dalgliesh, and All Her Fault, will be adapting the series.

Red Planet, a Fremantle-based company, has acquired the rights to a novel after winning a competitive bidding process. The book is scheduled for release in March.

“It’s Not What You Think” centers around Nadeeka Prasanna and Detective Chief Inspector Lauren Caldwell, two very different women brought together when Nadeeka discovers her new partner, Jamie, has been murdered and their home is a crime scene. The story follows their investigation and how their lives become intertwined.

Former police officer and bestselling author Mackintosh described his latest thriller, “It’s Not What You Think,” as his most ambitious work to date. He expressed excitement about the partnership with Red Planet Pictures, praising their vision and energy, and welcomed Kam Odedra’s involvement in the project.

Belinda Campbell, co-CEO of Red Planet Pictures, praised Clare as a popular author who excels at creating suspenseful and unpredictable stories. She highlighted Clare’s latest book, It’s Not What You Think, as a prime example of this skill.

We’re delighted Clare has chosen us to create the TV series and we’re very excited about Kam’s unique and captivating vision for it. As a highly skilled and insightful thriller writer, Kam is the perfect person to adapt this story for the screen. We’re eager to begin work!
