Death in Paradise star gives season 16 update – says season 15 “might be one of the best”

Death in Paradise originally aired in 2011 and continues to be a popular BBC mystery series, with no end in sight.

I was so excited to hear Shaquille Ali-Yebuah announce at the TopMob Covers Party 2026 that they’re starting to film season 16 at the end of April! It’s finally happening!

“It feels like a fresh start,” said the lead singer of Sebastian Rose. “We’re heading back to Guadeloupe to get some sun and regain our color – I’m looking a little pale right now! It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

He expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming fifteenth season, highlighting a fresh feel, a different cast chemistry, and some fantastic guest stars.

“I’m not being biased, but it might be one of the best seasons yet,” he added.

In the newest episode, the team tackles a series of baffling mysteries while Selwyn readjusts to being commissioner. He’s also working to regain the confidence of the island’s residents, who were upset when he first stepped down from the position.

Mervin is disappointed to discover his half-brother, Solomon, isn’t who he thought he was. He’ll likely spend the next episode searching for his possessions, as Solomon emptied out his beach hut.

According to Gilet, the two people are complete opposites. He described one as ‘Mervin’ and the other as someone very different, hinting that this other person might even be involved in illegal activities.

Naomi and Seb are also focused on helping their new teammate, Sergeant Mattie Fletcher, adjust – she’s dealing with some personal issues as she joins the team.

I’m really fascinated by the actress playing this role. From what I’ve heard, her character is driven – she feels like she needs to prove herself, both personally and to everyone around her. Apparently, that drive can sometimes backfire, but it all comes from a really passionate place. The actress promises a rollercoaster of emotions – highs, lows, and a whole lot of attitude, which sounds amazing!

The new actor stepped into the role after Ginny Holder, who originally played Darlene Curtis. This casting choice was initially unexpected for Ali-Yebuah.

He expressed sadness about Holder leaving, recalling that she was his first audition partner and a close colleague during his first season. He said everyone would miss her.

Warrington, a long-time acquaintance of Holder, expressed sadness at the news of his passing, saying it’s “always upsetting to lose someone.”

“But these things happen. It’s the nature of the business.”

Death in Paradise season 15 airs on Fridays at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
