Death Stranding 2 launches on PC this Thursday, March 19th, 2026. The extra features included in the PC version will also be added to the PS5 version as a free update. Unlike the first game, which required a paid ‘Director’s Cut’ to get bonus content, this sequel’s additions will be available to all players without any extra cost, and appear to be a significant expansion.
Hideo Kojima recently discussed the upcoming PS5 version of his game on the Japanese radio show, Spacewalk. According to MP1ST, here’s what players can expect in the update:
- New difficulty mode called To the Wilder
- Replayable boss fights, including Neil encounters
- New live-action cutscenes that were originally cut from the game
- New nightmare sequences for Sam and additional footage
- The Chiral Cat will appear in Sam’s Private Room
- 21:9 ultrawide support on PS5
- New items
- Further gameplay adjustments
A new difficulty level and previously removed content are being added to the game. Players can expect this new difficulty to be more challenging than anything they’ve experienced so far, and the restored content was cut from the original game due to storage space limitations. This free update arrives on PS5 this Thursday.
This update will build upon an experience we already considered perfect. In our review of Death Stranding 2 on PS5, we noted:
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is shaping up to be a landmark game for the PlayStation 5. It’s a remarkable achievement in every way – design, gameplay, story, and graphics all work together seamlessly. Kojima Productions has created a stunning cinematic experience that smoothly blends exciting action with exploration, all driven by a truly captivating story. It’s a massive improvement over the original and is undoubtedly a masterpiece.
