Please be aware that this article contains spoilers from the *Demon Slayer* manga. Promotion for *Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle* is still going strong weeks after its release. The film quickly became the highest-grossing anime film ever made, shattering box office records. With no signs of slowing down, Ufotable continues to release new promotional materials. A recent visual featured Zenitsu battling Kaigaku, which fans anticipated after seeing the trailer. However, the latest promo surprised everyone with a beautiful and heartbreaking scene featuring Hakuji (Akaza’s former name) and his fiancée, Koyuki.
Akaza, one of the strongest demons, returns in the first part of this story to fight Tanjiro again. Tanjiro is determined to avenge the death of Kyojuro Rengoku and stop Akaza, and he’s aided by Giyu Tomioka, a powerful demon slayer. Their battle is the most exciting part of the series, but it has a very sad ending. A brief look into Akaza’s past also moved many viewers.
Akaza’s Backstory Is Revealed in the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Film

Akaza quickly became a popular character when he first appeared in the *Infinity Train* arc, making occasional appearances afterward. We see him fighting five years later, and he’s even more powerful. The battle was incredibly intense, pushing the Demon Slayers to their limits. Interestingly, Akaza fought with everything he had and acknowledged the skill of his opponents.
He was winning the fight for a long time, but remembering his past led to his downfall. As the battle neared its end, Akaza recalled a life he’d forgotten for over a century – a deeply painful existence as Hakuji. Just when things had started to improve after years of hardship, something even more shocking happened. He remembered the woman he was going to marry, the girl he’d loved since childhood.
Following a devastating loss, Akaza lost everything he loved and tragically crossed paths with Muzan. The promotional material shows a beautiful moment where he and Koyuki made a promise over a century ago, a promise they were never able to keep. As expected, Akaza became a demon soon after Koyuki’s death. Though he forgot her and his life as Hakuji, subtle reminders of her remained – from his appearance and fighting style to the very names of his attacks, everything subtly referenced his lost love.
