Director Rob Reiner, Wife Michele Dead in Apparent Homicide

The Reiner family is facing the unimagineable. 

Director Rob Reiner and his wife, producer Michele Singer Reiner, were discovered dead at their home in Brentwood on December 14th, reportedly from stab wounds, according to a family source who spoke with NBC News.

Family and friends are deeply saddened to announce the unexpected deaths of Michele and Rob Reiner, as shared with Variety. They are devastated by this loss and ask for privacy as they grieve.

Rob Reiner, the director of films like The Princess Bride, Stand By Me, A Few Good Men, and This Is Spinal Tap, passed away at the age of 78. His wife, Michele, whom he met while working on When Harry Met Sally, was 68.

Rob Reiner and his wife have three children: Jake, Nick, and Romy. He also has a daughter, Tracy, with his former wife, the late director Penny Marshall, whom he was married to from 1971 to 1981.

On December 14th around 4 p.m., Los Angeles police were called to investigate a possible death. When they arrived at the home, they found two people who had died.

Police detectives from the Robbery Homicide Division went to the home of director Rob Reiner after receiving a report of a possible homicide. Investigators have not released any further information at this time, as the investigation is still active.

Rob explained that he met his wife while filming the movie, and together they revised the ending. Billy contributed some of the dialogue, ultimately leading to the decision to have the characters end up together.

“I met my wife while making the movie and we changed the ending and this is what we came up with,” Reiner said. “Billy came up with some of this dialogue and that’s how we decided to end the movie, that they do end up together.”
