A new movie by Steven Spielberg is always a big event, and his latest, Disclosure Day, is especially noteworthy because it signals his return to making large-scale, summer action films.
The new film will once again delve into the subject of UFOs, a theme seen in iconic movies like Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T., and War of the Worlds. It also boasts a fantastic cast, including Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo.
The movie comes out on Wednesday, June 10th, and while official reviews aren’t available yet, early reactions are starting to appear on social media from journalists who’ve seen advance screenings.
Based on early reactions, it seems like “Disclosure Day” might be another exciting and entertaining blockbuster from Steven Spielberg.
Gizmodo’s Germain Lussier shared on X that they ‘loved’ the movie Disclosure Day, calling it a thrilling and complex blend of action, romance, and mystery, all set within a fascinating science fiction world.
He described the film as Steven Spielberg’s best work in two decades, praising its signature enchanting quality and highlighting Emily Blunt’s unforgettable performance.

I wasn’t the only one completely blown away! Steven Weintraub, the editor-in-chief over at Collider, called it another massive win for Spielberg, and he actually advised people to go see it knowing as little as possible – which I totally agree with. It really is best experienced going in cold.
Honestly, Emily Blunt is phenomenal,” he added. “Typically, huge summer blockbusters don’t receive much awards buzz, but I think people will be amazed by her performance in this one…
Drew Taylor, a writer for The Wrap, was highly impressed with Emily Blunt’s performance, describing it as “astounding.” Meanwhile, Jairo Jiménez noted the incredible chemistry between Blunt and O’Connor, calling them a “magnetic & beautifully human couple” and praising their performances as the best of their careers.
He added that the film was a “hypnotic, captivating UFO thriller” and “an astonishing masterpiece.”

Reporter Bill Bria described the film as Spielberg’s strangest work, and he meant it as a positive. He praised the script by David Koepp, comparing it to a blend of The X-Files and biblical stories, calling it a daring and impressive feat. Ultimately, Bria found the movie captivating and emotionally powerful.
Polygon’s Jacob Kleinman offered a more cautious take, stating he didn’t believe the new movie, Disclosure Day, was as good as some people were claiming – specifically, that it wasn’t the best film Spielberg had made in two decades.
Despite its flaws, the film is enjoyable. While the story feels cluttered and underdeveloped in places, it still captures the spirit of classic science fiction from Spielberg, making for a fun adventure.
The review embargo and the film’s release are both just around the corner, so it will be interesting to see what most people think once they’ve had a chance to see it.
The movie’s official description asks a thought-provoking question: If you discovered we weren’t the only ones in the universe, and someone showed you undeniable proof, would you be scared? This summer, the truth will be revealed to everyone – all seven billion of us. We’re rapidly approaching a day when something big is disclosed.
Disclosure Day is released in cinemas on Wednesday 10 June 2026.
