Disney isn’t abandoning its most popular stories. Following the success of the live-action Lilo & Stitch remake – which earned over a billion dollars – Disney has announced plans for more similar projects.
A sequel to Lilo & Stitch is officially happening, and it’s scheduled to be released on May 26, 2028. Disney has also announced that Incredibles 3 will follow shortly after, with a release date of June 16, 2028.
Disney had previously booked two dates on the ComScore calendar without revealing which movies would be released then. Now, it’s confirmed that Disney will continue to release plenty of films in 2028 as planned.
The live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch arrived in theaters on May 23, 2025, coinciding with the release of a new sequel. The film was a major hit, earning $1.038 billion worldwide on a $100 million production budget.
The live-action remake was directed by Dean Fleischer Camp and featured a cast including Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Hannah Waddingham, Courtney B. Vance, Zach Galifianakis, and Maia Kealoha. Chris Sanders, the writer and director of the original 2002 animated movie, returned to voice the character of Stitch, though he didn’t have a role in the creative process behind the remake.
The release dates for Lilo & Stitch 2 and Incredibles 3 are well-timed, coinciding with a significant change at Disney. March 18th will be the last day for the current CEO, who announced their departure in late January 2026. Josh D’Amaro, previously in charge of Disney Experiences, will be taking over as CEO.
Disney’s positive outlook is encouraging, particularly because other major studios are facing significant shifts right now. For example, Warner Bros. has been bought by Paramount Skydance, who will also be integrating HBO Max into their operations.
The first Incredibles movie came out in 2004 and remains popular today. It earned $631.6 million around the world, and a second film followed in June 2018. Incredibles 2 was a bigger hit, earning $1.24 billion globally on a $200 million production budget.
