Disney is famous for its incredible animated movies, particularly its traditional 2D films. They’ve given us timeless favorites like Aladdin, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and 101 Dalmatians. Now, Disney has reimagined one of these classics with a darker, more surprising twist, and it’s available to watch right now.
Disney and Webtoon are collaborating to create a new take on the classic animated film Beauty and the Beast. Called Disney As Old As Time: A Twisted Tale, this adaptation by Beatrice Bassoli and Francesca Siviero, with art by Chiara Bracale and Rossella Gentile (according to Collider), isnāt just a darker retelling ā it takes the story in some surprisingly intense and harsh directions.
Okay, so Disney As Old As Time: A Twisted Tale starts out pretty familiar ā you’ve got this really arrogant prince who’s rude to an old woman, and surprise, she’s a powerful enchantress! He gets turned into a beast, naturally, and Belle still winds up at his castleā¦ but that’s where things get really different. It throws a curveball you definitely won’t see coming!
The original animated Beauty and the Beast didnāt say much about Belleās mother, and while the live-action version gave her more attention, she still wasnāt a major character. However, the new story, A Twisted Tale, changes all that. It suggests Belle has very few memories of her mother, and reveals the surprising truth: Belleās mother is actually the enchantress responsible for turning the Prince into the Beast.
This kicks off an adventure where they try to understand how everything is connected, all while the Beast searches for true love ā the only way to break his curse. It’s a fresh take on the classic tale, and a major reveal that completely alters the relationship between Belle and the Beast. You can find more details in the official description below.
Belle is a bright and creative young woman who dreams of leaving her small town for excitement.
