Disney Officially Becomes 2026’s First Studio To Pass Major Box Office Milestone

Five months into 2026, Disney is the first studio to pass a significant box office milestone.

Disney has a number of films planned for theatrical release through 2026, including Send Help, Psycho Killer, Hoppers, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, and The Devil Wears Prada 2. Early in the year, audiences could still find recent hits from late 2025, like Zootopia 2 and Avatar: Fire and Ash, playing in cinemas.

Disney has become the first studio to reach $2 billion in global box office revenue for 2026, according to Deadline. This achievement was boosted by a strong second weekend for The Devil Wears Prada 2, which earned $118.8 million worldwide and has now grossed $433.2 million overall. Other films contributing to Disney’s success included Hoppers ($371.6 million), Send Help ($94 million), and continuing revenue from 2025 hits Zootopia 2 and Avatar: Fire and Ash.

Disney has had a very successful start to the year, with strong performance across a variety of films, not just a few blockbusters. While franchises like Zootopia 2 ($1.86 billion) and Avatar: Fire and Ash ($1.49 billion) performed well, original films like the horror movie Send Help and the animated feature Hoppers also proved to be big hits. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is also a major success, earning significantly more in just two weeks than the original film’s entire run of $326.5 million.

Disney is set to see continued success at the box office, with several major movies planned through 2026. One highlight is The Mandalorian and Grogu, arriving in theaters on May 22nd. This is the first Star Wars film since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. While it’s not predicted to match the box office performance of the previous Star Wars films, it’s still expected to be a hit, particularly given its relatively modest production budget of $165 million.

The new Toy Story movie, number five, arrives in theaters on June 19th. If it’s as successful as the previous installments, Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4, it’s expected to earn over $1 billion worldwide. Then, on July 10th, Disney will release a live-action version of Moana. Even though the trailer has received some negative feedback, the movie is likely to be a box office hit, considering Moana 2 and Disney’s recent live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch both surpassed $1 billion in earnings.

Disney has several more films planned before the year is out. Before summer ends, they’ll release Super Troopers 3 and Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars. In the fall, audiences can expect the thriller Whalefall and the dark comedy Wild Horse Nine. Around Thanksgiving, Disney will debut the original film Hexed, which likely won’t perform as well as last year’s sequels Moana 2 and Zootopia 2. However, as the success of Pixar’s Hoppers shows, Disney’s original animated films can still be box office hits.

Disney will finish the year with the release of Avengers: Doomsday on December 18th. While the studio might not reach last year’s total of $6.5 billion in earnings, this new Marvel movie could help them exceed that amount. Doomsday is also expected to continue performing well in early 2027.
