I’m so excited! A brand new anime based on a series from Shonen Jump is hitting Netflix later this month, and they’ve already announced who’s doing the English dub! Honestly, this spring has been amazing for anime fans – ever since the shows started premiering in April, it’s been non-stop great releases. We’ve seen a few Shonen Jump series get anime adaptations this season, but there’s one in particular everyone’s been really hoping to see get a wider release.
The anime Akane-banashi, created by Yuki Suenaga and Takamasa Moue, was highly anticipated as a Spring 2026 release. However, it hasn’t received much attention lately because it’s been exclusively available on YouTube. Now, as it prepares to premiere on Netflix on May 17th, the English dub cast has been announced. Details about who’s voicing the characters are listed below.
When Does Akane-banashi Stream on Netflix?

The anime series Akane-banashi will debut on Netflix on May 17th with the first two episodes available. Abby Trott voices the main character, Akane Osaki, in the English dub, which is directed and written by Alex Von David. The supporting cast includes Xander Mobus as Shinta Arakawa, Rebecca Wang as Masaki Osaki, Brook Chalmers as Shiguma Arakawa, Evan Michael Lee as Issho Arakawa, Rich Brown as Zensho Arakawa, Kirk Thornton as both Ikken Arakawa and Yanagiya, Mona Marshall as Yoshino, Clifford Chapin as Kimihisa Kashio and the Emcee, Dorah Fine as Mrs. Ozaki, Matt Shipman as Kaisei Arakawa, and Darius Marquis Johnson as Guriko Arakawa.
You can watch the series now on the official Akane-banashi Global YouTube channel if you’re in North or Latin America. The anime is directed by Ayumu Watanabe at studio ZEXCS, with Yu Harima as assistant director. Kii Tanaka designed the characters, Michihiro Tsuchiya wrote the scripts, Kikuhiko Hayashiya oversaw the traditional storytelling aspect (Rakugo), and Akio Izutsu composed the music. Fans of Shonen Jump have been eagerly anticipating this adaptation.
What Is Akane-banashi?

Akane-banashi is a fantastic manga that has quickly become a standout new series in Shonen Jump. It’s a unique story that introduces readers to the traditional Japanese art of Rakugo, but with an exciting action twist. The series follows Akane as she pursues Rakugo, hoping to avenge her father’s unfulfilled dream of becoming a renowned performer. Fans have been eagerly awaiting an anime adaptation for years.
Okay, so it’s not going to blow you away with over-the-top action like some other new Shonen Jump anime, but trust me, this one is still worth checking out! The English dub has a really tough job – they’re taking this traditional Japanese performance art, Rakugo, and adapting it for a whole new audience. I’m really excited to see how the voice actors handle it and bring all those nuances to life, so I’ll definitely be watching!
