Korean shows, often called K-content, are becoming incredibly popular worldwide, and Disney+ is recognizing this trend. They’ve made the unusual move of renewing a Korean crime thriller before the first season even airs! K-dramas like Queen of Tears and Mr. Sunshine are prime examples of this growing popularity. However, unlike many American TV shows, K-dramas are typically designed as short, self-contained series – meaning they usually don’t continue for multiple seasons.
Disney surprised many by renewing its upcoming crime thriller, Made in Korea, for a second season. The announcement was made at a content showcase event in Hong Kong Disneyland, alongside the confirmation that the Korean series will premiere on Hulu and Disney+ on December 24th.
Good news for fans – season 2 is already being made, so we won’t have to wait too long to see it. It’s currently expected to arrive in late 2026.
The new Korean series, Made in Korea, stars Hyun Bin, the popular actor known for his roles in Crash Landing On You and Confidential Assignment. He plays Baek Kitae, a man who leads a dangerous double life – working as an agent during the day and a smuggler at night. His pursuit of wealth and power is challenged by prosecutor Jang Geon-young, played by Jung Woosung, who is determined to stop him. Disney has released a first look at the series, which you can watch below.
It’s unusual for a K-drama to be renewed for a second season, especially before the first season even airs! Netflix has been a major player in bringing Korean shows to audiences, and while Squid Game had three seasons, most K-dramas have been getting shorter lately. They used to have over 20 episodes, but now most are around 8 to 12 episodes long.
Disney is growing its library of Korean shows and movies. They’ve announced a new series called Perfect Crown coming in 2026, shared updates on The Remarried Empress – their most expensive Korean drama to date – and revealed plans for Portraits of Delusion.
The new series, Made in Korea, will premiere on Disney+ with its first two episodes on December 24, 2025. Two more episodes will be released on December 31st, and then one new episode will be available each week, culminating in the final episode on January 14th.
