Disney is famous for its blockbuster animated films, but the company has also made a big impact on television. While some of their TV shows haven’t reached the same level of success as classics like The Lion King or Lilo & Stitch, they still have dedicated fans. Now, an actor who starred in a popular Disney Channel series is hoping it will be brought back. Given the recent trend of reviving animated shows, there’s a good chance Dante Basco’s wish could come true.
Voice actor Dante Basco recently shared his enthusiasm for a potential revival of American Dragon: Jake Long. The show concluded in 2007 and hasn’t been on TV for almost twenty years, but Basco believes Jake is a memorable character for many who grew up watching it. He expressed a desire to bring attention back to the series, saying he feels a connection to the character. If a revival were to happen, it would likely involve significant changes to Jake’s life, considering how the original series ended.
The American Dragon Must Live On
If you haven’t seen it before, this show has two seasons and fifty-two episodes. It centers around Jake, who discovers he has dragon ancestry and uses those powers to fight crime. He can transform into a dragon because of his mother’s family history, but his father doesn’t know about it. Good news – you can now watch both seasons on Disney+.
Interestingly, in 2023, actor Basco suggested a continuation of the show was still possible. He mentioned recently meeting the show’s creators to discuss the idea, and shared his vision of seeing Jake as a young adult, protecting New York City with magic.
For those who need a reminder, the original American Dragon: Jake Long series concluded with Jake’s father learning about both his son’s and wife’s secret identities. Thankfully, his dad reacted well, and this could potentially happen with Rose too. Throughout the show, Jake had a crush on a dragon slayer who often opposed him. If the series were revived, it could explore their now-established relationship further. As of now, a revival hasn’t been announced, but even after twenty years, a return for Jake Long remains a possibility.
