Before the BAFTA Games Awards with Google Play this Friday, April 17th, we spoke with the creators of the game Dispatch.
The popular superhero game has received nine nominations, and several of its creators, along with actress Erin Yvette who plays Blond Blazer, joined us in London to discuss their success.
We also discussed their surprisingly friendly relationship with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which has been winning a lot of awards this year.
Creative director Nick Herman joked that they’re accustomed to being nominated for awards but rarely winning, so they’re trying not to get their hopes up this time.
“Please don’t say that,” said Erin Yvette, who works on the Dispatch podcast. “Let’s not jump to conclusions.” That’s so typical of her, always looking for the good in things!
Dennis Lenart, another creative director on the game, said receiving nine nominations was both thrilling and a little daunting. He explained that having so many nominations created more pressure, as opposed to feeling like they just had one opportunity.
Executive producer Michael Choung expressed his excitement about the nomination, saying they were happy just to be considered. While they certainly hoped to win, he acknowledged they hadn’t won in previous nominations and were still thrilled to be included.
Look, I have absolutely no problem with Clair Obscur, or any game really. Honestly, it kinda stings to admit, but I genuinely love that game. The team that made it did some seriously amazing work.
“So, yeah, if we’re gonna get our ass kicked, I like getting our ass kicked by folks that we like.”

While it’s great to see such support, we’re still hoping Dispatch wins something at the BAFTAs on Friday. You never know what might happen at these awards shows!
