Suranne Jones is a familiar face on television, recently appearing in shows like Hostage and Frauds, and there’s promising news for those who enjoy her work.
Fans are excited about the possible return of BBC’s Doctor Foster for a third season, with Suranne Jones expected to reprise her famous role. The show first aired in 2015, followed by a second season in 2017, meaning it’s been eight years since the last episode.
The Sun reports that production on the third season of Doctor Foster is expected to begin next year, and it could be on TV by late 2026 or early 2027.

The show was a big hit for the BBC when it first aired and became a defining British psychological thriller. It focuses on Gemma Foster, played by Jones, who begins to suspect her husband is being unfaithful.
Dr. Gemma’s life begins to fall apart when she starts investigating her husband, Simon, portrayed by Bertie Carvel of ‘Dalgliesh’.
The show’s second season begins a few years after the first, focusing on how Simon’s fresh start and his relationship with Kate (Jodie Comer) continue to affect Gemma.
I was really captivated by the first season, and even though the second ended with some loose ends, I honestly felt like there was so much more potential in the world they created and the characters we’d come to love. I was hoping to see those stories continue and develop!
A series called Life, featuring Anna Baker (played by Victoria Hamilton) from Doctor Foster, was broadcast on the BBC.
When the second season aired, Jones mentioned a heavy workload as a potential reason she might not return for another season of Doctor Foster. Since then, her schedule has become even more packed, as she recently appeared in BBC’s Film Club and is currently filming the third season of Vigil.
Back in 2019, Mike Bartlett, the writer behind the series Doctor Foster, suggested there were still stories to be told about the character Gemma.
The same is true of Kate Parks, the character Jodie Comer plays. I definitely sensed in the first series that there was a lot more to her than what was initially shown, which is why she features more prominently in the second series. And Jodie is fantastic in the role.
He stated he’d only consider returning for a third season if there was a compelling story to tell – one he felt was as meaningful and necessary as the first two seasons.
I’d be open to continuing the story, but only if we can find something that feels as meaningful and impactful as what came before, and really explores new aspects of the characters.
