Former Doctor Who actresses Bonnie Langford and Carole Ann Ford have been discussing the season 15 finale, revealing that the final version of the episode wasn’t quite what was originally written.
The recent finale of “The Reality War” surprised viewers when Ncuti Gatwa, playing the Fifteenth Doctor, regenerated into Billie Piper – known for her role as Rose Tyler in “Doctor Who.” The episode aired in May.
The surprise was well-kept, and Melanie Bush, who plays Langford, said she had no idea Piper would be involved in the episode.
The actress didn’t reveal many details, but she explained that the recent filming was quite different from the original shoot. They had filmed the majority of the project the previous year, and she had to return for additional scenes. Unfortunately, she couldn’t film with the rest of the cast because she was in America, which she regretted.

Carole Ann Ford was the original companion, Susan Foreman, in Doctor Who. She later returned to the show in season 15, but some viewers felt her storyline wasn’t fully resolved.
Naturally, a few extra scenes needed to be filmed. Some initial episodes didn’t quite fit after certain changes were made, so they required additional shooting to align with the revised storyline.
It’s disappointing I couldn’t finish, but I really enjoyed the part I did get to do, and I love watching it. It felt like I was floating in space! And, hey, you still have to find me, Grandpa! I’m still waiting for you to!
Doctor Who will be back for a Christmas special in 2026, but that will be the last episode released through the show’s current agreement with Disney.
Before that, though, fans can look forward to spin-off The War Between the Land and the Sea.
Will Mel be showing up? Langford is keeping tight-lipped, playfully responding, “I can’t say! I’m not allowed to reveal anything—I’ve been told to keep everything a secret.”
