An explosion happened at the Rockstar North building in Edinburgh, and firefighters are currently at the scene. Initial reports point to a boiler as the cause.
The event happened at 5:02 AM on January 19, 2026. As of now, no deaths or injuries have been reported.
Because the situation is still unfolding, it’s currently unknown if this will affect the making of GTA 6.
Emergency have services responded to Rockstar North

At 5:02 AM, emergency services were called to Holyrood Road in Edinburgh. Firefighters and police responded to the incident and blocked off the area around the Rockstar North building while they investigated what happened.
Initial reports indicate the incident started with an explosion in the building’s boiler room. Emergency teams were at the location for several hours before departing.
Thankfully, no one was hurt in the incident, and emergency services had left the area by 9:21 am UK time.
A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SRFS) said:
I was alerted to an incident on Holyrood Road in Edinburgh at 5:02 AM on Monday, January 19th. We immediately dispatched three fire engines and specialist teams. Upon arrival, we found a commercial building with structural damage, and our crews worked to secure it. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported, and we were able to leave the scene at 9:21 AM.

Will GTA 6 be impacted?

It’s currently unknown if the recent issues will impact the creation of GTA 6, but Rockstar Games has dealt with internal problems lately. This includes employees being fired after information about the new game was leaked.
The Rockstar North offices damaged by the explosion were also the location of previous attempts to form a union and had seen workplace disagreements. Employees had protested outside the Edinburgh office, and there were accusations that some job cuts were related to union organizing, which Rockstar has refuted.
However, this studio wasn’t involved in the internal leaks that caused some employees to be fired for breaking confidentiality rules. Those leaks were dealt with by a different team at Rockstar Games.
Grand Theft Auto 6 has been pushed back twice and is now expected to come out on November 19, 2026. If released then, it’s almost certain to be one of the year’s biggest, if not the biggest, game releases.
It’s hard to remember a game that’s created as much excitement as GTA 6, especially considering it’s been 13 years since the release of GTA V. Given that GTA V is still incredibly popular, expectations are high for GTA 6 to be a massive success.
That’s even considering a PC launch currently hasn’t been confirmed.
