Just six years ago, Robert Downey Jr. starred in the expensive film ‘Dolittle,’ which wasn’t successful. Now, Dr. Dolittle is coming back – but this time as an animated movie. Sycamore Studios and Reel FX Animation Studios, known for films like ‘The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants’ and ‘The Book of Life,’ are creating it.

I’m really excited for the new ‘Doctor Dolittle’ movie! From what I understand, he’s just gotten back from an expedition that didn’t go as planned – apparently, he accidentally let one of the animals fall into the hands of poachers. Now, he needs to team up with some old friends from the zoo to fix things and save the animal kingdom. It sounds like a pretty big adventure!

Cal Brunker and Bob Barlen, the writers behind the successful “PAW Patrol” movies for Paramount, are working on the script. Timothy Reckart, who directed the Christmas film “The Star” (2017) and received an Oscar nomination for his 2013 short film “Head over Heels,” will direct.

The history of Dolittle….

Dr. Dolittle is back, continuing a history of adaptations from Hugh Lofting’s books that haven’t always been successful. The 1967 film starring Rex Harrison was a costly failure, and a short-lived animated series followed in 1970. Eddie Murphy’s 1998 film was a major hit, spawning two sequels. A direct-to-video reboot with Kyla Pratt came in 2008, with another sequel in 2009, before Robert Downey Jr. took on the role in a large-scale 2010 production.
