If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the number of Metroidvania games on the PS5, perhaps you’d be interested in what Nacon is calling the world’s first “Puzzlevania.” The publisher is certainly hoping that name sticks!
Okay, so Cyanide just announced a new Dracula game called Dracula: The Disciple, and honestly, it sounds amazing! It’s being made for PlayStation and they’re aiming for a 2027 release. But… there’s a little worry about the studio’s financial situation, so hopefully they can make it through and actually finish the game!
Let’s talk about the game’s story. It’s a puzzle game played from a first-person perspective. You’ll take on the role of Emile Valombres, an archivist who is very ill and has gone to Dracula’s castle in Transylvania hoping to find a cure.
This game focuses on discovering things and paying close attention to details, with a slower, more thoughtful pace than most games.
Here’s a snippet from the press release:
Though the castle stands empty, its secrets remain. Explore the Count’s notes, letters, and research – filled with strange knowledge that goes beyond understanding, including magical spells, attempts to change substances, and disturbing experiments. These documents are your only chance, and it will take your intelligence to unravel their mysteries.
You’ll combine what you learn with magical potions, mixing ingredients and performing ceremonies to heal yourself.
As you delve deeper into your research, you’ll start to feel like Dracula – it almost seems like becoming a vampire is the secret to living forever.
The castle serves as the central location for everything that happens, and it will change and grow as you discover its secrets and gain new powers.
The game isn’t playable yet, but a short trailer is available above to give you a feel for its style and atmosphere.
We find this fresh, thoughtful approach to the classic Dracula villain very interesting. If the story and character interactions are well-done, this game has the potential to be a truly exceptional immersive experience.
If nothing else, the concept is novel, and we’re certainly eager to learn more.
