Dragon Ball Daima Ruined a Crucial Fight in Super & It’s Often Overlooked

The latest installment in the Dragon Ball saga, *Dragon Ball Daima*, was Akira Toriyama’s final work and has been widely praised by fans. Released last year to celebrate Dragon Ball’s 40th anniversary, this 20-episode anime series picks up a few months after the defeat of Buu. The story, penned by Toriyama himself, continues the adventures of Goku and the Z Fighters. It centers around Gomah, the new ruler of the Demon Realm, who is scared by the immense power of Goku and his friends. Believing they’ll eventually come for his realm, Gomah and his advisor, Degesu, use the Dragon Balls to turn Goku and the others into children. With the Earth’s Dragon Balls now useless and Dende captured, Goku and the Z Fighters must find a way to use the Dragon Balls of the Demon Realm to restore themselves.

It’s incredibly difficult to obtain these items due to the powerful Tamagami protecting them. The series weakened Goku and his friends, but they persevered despite being at a disadvantage. Vegeta debuted his Super Saiyan 3 transformation, only for Goku to surpass him by achieving the Super Saiyan 4 form. This iconic transformation, originally introduced in the anime *Dragon Ball GT* by Toei Animation, was later officially recognized by creator Akira Toriyama. However, while the SSJ4 transformation was impressive, it significantly altered the impact of a key battle in *Dragon Ball Super*.

Goku and Beerus’ First Clash in Dragon Ball Super Doesn’t Make Sense Anymore

The gods of Universe 7 were shocked when Beerus, the God of Destruction, woke up. Beerus is incredibly powerful, and they feared he was searching for a Super Saiyan God because he could easily destroy everything. He was driven by a prophetic dream and eventually discovered Goku, tracking him to King Kai’s planet. Despite knowing how dangerous Beerus was, Goku was thrilled and immediately challenged him to a fight, even though King Kai warned him not to.

Beerus wanted to see how strong Goku was, but was unimpressed by his first two Super Saiyan forms. Goku’s Super Saiyan 3 transformation was much more powerful, though it still wasn’t what Beerus had been hoping for. Although their first fight wasn’t a full-on battle, it was intense enough to hint at the powerful conflict to come.

Goku originally said Super Saiyan 3 was his final transformation, but the timeline gets confusing when you consider *Dragon Ball Super* happens after *Daima*. When *Dragon Ball Super* first came out, Akira Toriyama hadn’t planned *Daima* or made Super Saiyan 4 official. However, Goku already knew how to use Super Saiyan 4 during the final battle in *Daima*, which creates a problem with his earlier fight against Beerus. *Daima* and *Super* unexpectedly became connected, and the timeline didn’t account for this important detail from *Super*.
