The Duchess of Kent has died at the age of 92, Buckingham Palace has announced.
The Duchess held the title of senior-most family member in the royal household, being married to the Duke of Kent – who is a first cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II and a grandson of King George V.
As a humble movie-goer and storyteller, it brings me great sadness to share this heartfelt tale: The grand stage of Buckingham Palace has bid farewell to its beloved actress, Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Kent.
As a movie buff, I’d rephrase that as: “Last night, in the tranquil setting of Kensington Palace, I had the sad duty to report that our beloved monarch slipped away peacefully, with her cherished family by her side.
The King, Queen, and the entire royal family unite with the Duke of Kent, his family including children and grandchildren, in honoring her loss and fondly recalling The Duchess’ lifelong commitment to various organizations she was involved with. Her love for music, as well as her compassion towards young people, are particularly remembered.
Katherine Worsley, later known as the Duchess, joined the royal family in 1961 at her wedding. Princess Anne served as one of the bridesmaids during the ceremony held at York Minster. Both the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles were present at this special event.

For numerous individuals, the duchess is likely to be seen as a recurring presence at Wimbledon, since she was known for presenting trophies and comforting those who were defeated in the tennis tournament.
In 1993, she consoled Jana Novotná in a memorable manner, and five years later, she attended the event to award the trophy to the tennis player.)
The duchess shared a deep love for music and dedicated her efforts towards enhancing music education for children. From the mid-90s onwards, she even took up a part-time position as a music teacher in Kingston upon Hull.
In 2004, she expressed to BBC News her deep affection for her work, stating, “I truly cherish it. I increasingly believe it’s the most crucial aspect of my activities. And young kids are similar to sponges, eagerly absorbing knowledge.
Teaching those eager to learn is a genuinely fulfilling experience for me, a true honor. I consider it among the most thrilling professions out there.
She is mourned by her spouse, the Duke of Kent, as well as their three offspring: Lady Helen Taylor, Lord Nicholas Windsor, and Earl George of St Andrews.

Her husband, the Duke of Kent, along with their children – Lady Helen Taylor, Lord Nicholas Windsor, and Earl George of St Andrews – remain after her passing.
