Popular games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Neverwinter Nights 2 prove there’s plenty of good Dungeons & Dragons video games available. However, the number is shrinking, as Hasbro recently cancelled another game still in development. This project was being created by Giant Skull, a team that includes people who worked on the Star Wars Jedi series.
According to Bloomberg, Hasbro has scrapped an action adventure game after about a year of work. Wizards of the Coast, a gaming division of Hasbro, stopped working on the project earlier this year. This decision is part of a larger restructuring at Wizards of the Coast, which also included closing Atomic Arcade, a studio working on a Snake Eyes video game, in early 2026. That studio was staffed with experienced developers from companies like Warner Bros., Epic Games, and Bungie. Hasbro has stated, however, that the Snake Eyes game hasn’t been canceled.
According to a Wizards of the Coast representative, the company regularly evaluates ideas throughout the development process. They chose not to move forward with an initial concept from Giant Skull, but maintain a strong working relationship and high regard for Stig Asmussen and his team.
It’s worth noting that Cory Barlog is a highly respected figure in the gaming industry. He started at Santa Monica Studio, working on the original God of War games, and steadily rose through the ranks – beginning as a lead environment artist, then becoming art director, and finally game director for each of the three main installments. After leaving Santa Monica Studio, he joined Respawn Entertainment and directed both Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Shortly after the challenging launch of Survivor, he founded his own studio, Giant Skull, and brought some former Respawn colleagues with him.
What Was Giant Skull’s Canceled Dungeons & Dragons Game?

Asmussen had a strong history of creating popular and large-scale action games. Although details were limited, the cancelled Dungeons & Dragons game was confirmed to be a single-player action adventure built in Unreal Engine 5 for PC and various consoles. Giant Skull aimed to create a compelling Dungeons & Dragons world with engaging stories, exciting battles, and dynamic movement.
Okay, so even though things got a little rocky, Asmussen seems really positive. He said everything’s good at the studio, and Wizards of the Coast is still open to hearing ideas from his team. Honestly, I’m not sure if any of those pitches will actually go anywhere, but it’s good to know they’re still being considered!
Game cancellations are common, but it’s still disappointing to see another major title from a popular series get shelved. We’ve seen this happen recently with games based on Black Panther and Wonder Woman. With the current economic climate and large publishers being quick to discontinue projects, we can likely expect more game cancellations in the coming years.
