Electronic Arts is closing down one of its games within the next 24 hours. It’s common for game publishers to shut down titles each year, usually because maintaining the servers for older games becomes too expensive, or because not enough people are playing. This time, however, EA is shutting down a surprisingly recent game due to a lack of players.
Starting tomorrow, November 30th, online services for EA Sports FC Empires will be discontinued. This mobile strategy game, a spin-off of EA’s popular soccer series, let players build and manage their own soccer team and organization. Although it launched in limited areas at the end of 2024 with early access and continued with several seasons of new content, EA has decided to cancel the game instead of releasing a full version and expanding to more regions. This means you won’t be able to play the game after about 24 hours.
EA Has Shut Down Numerous Games in 2025

It might be surprising, but EA Sports FC Empires isn’t the only EA game being discontinued in 2025. In fact, it’s not even the first this November. Earlier this month, EA stopped online support for four major games: Dirt 3, Dirt Showdown, Grid 2, and Grid Autosport. They also shut down several mobile games back in January. Overall, it’s been a tough year for fans of older EA titles.
EA is continuing to discontinue online services for some of its older games. This time, the online features for the 2019 racing game Grid will be shut down on December 19th. EA hasn’t announced any other games slated for closure yet, but it’s likely more will follow in 2026. To stay updated on which games are affected, check EA’s online services shutdown page.
