EastEnders reveals Eddie Knight’s dying wish in troubling return story in early BBC iPlayer release

Nicola Mitchell, played by Laura Doddington, was stunned in EastEnders when she met George Knight’s (Colin Salmon) abusive adoptive father, Eddie (Christopher Fairbank).

Eddie has been in prison since 2024 after being convicted of the long-ago murder of George’s father, Henry Asare. He and his wife, Gloria (Elizabeth Counsell), initially seemed to want to reconnect with their son, but it soon became clear they had hidden, troubling intentions.

George learned he was adopted from West Africa through an arrangement where babies were sent to families in other countries. When Henry traveled to the UK to bring George home, Gloria desperately begged Eddie to prevent him from taking George.

Eddie and several of his racist friends brutally attacked and killed Henry. They then packed his body into a suitcase and dumped it in the canal. A young George happened to see the attack, but didn’t know who Henry was.

George’s testimony in court severely damaged Eddie’s reputation, leading to his imprisonment. Tragically, on the very same day, Gloria fell ill and died.

He made all the funeral arrangements himself and deliberately excluded George, not even informing him of the date or location.

George has had no contact with Eddie since, though that could be about to change.

Today, he and Nicola brought their newborn daughter, Ivy, home from the hospital to a wonderful surprise: a party thrown by their whole family!

Nicola was clearly worried about her baby, Ivy, getting sick, and wouldn’t let Honey Mitchell near her. The tension was incredibly high, and Nicola firmly told everyone to leave.

Later that day, she had a deeply personal conversation with Gina Knight, confessing that her mother and sister had been very controlling during her previous two pregnancies, and she was worried the same thing would happen again.

George realized he’d given the community midwife his phone number to get updates on Ivy, so he asked where his phone was. Nicola found it and was surprised to see several missed calls.

She thought the call was from the hospital, but the person speaking sounded much more distressed.

“Where is he? Tell him he’s got to come and see me. It’s his dad,” Eddie grunted down the phone.

Nicola rushed to the hospital to demand answers from Eddie, wanting to know why he was so eager to get back in touch with George after nearly two years of no contact. She angrily called him awful and insisted that, as far as George was concerned, he was still in a relationship with him.

Eddie shared the heartbreaking news that he was dying of cancer and pleaded with her to help him reconcile with his son before it was too late.

How will Nicola react?
