Ella Langley Details How Miranda Lambert’s Kangaroo Inspired Her Song

Ella Langley is choosin’ inspiration from all over the place. 

The singer of “Choosin’ Texas” shared that the popular song was actually based on a real-life event involving Miranda Lambert and her pet kangaroo.

Ella revealed at Billboard’s Women in Music event that Miranda was pulled over while driving with a kangaroo in her car. Apparently, the car had Texas license plates, even though she was in Ohio at the time.

The 26-year-old woman remembered the officer who stopped her immediately noticing her Texas license plates and saying, “Of course, she’s from Texas – I can always tell.”

Ella remembered that phrase and it inspired a song on her second album, Dandelion. The song includes the lines, “She’s from Texas, I can tell by the way / He’s two-steppin’ ’round the room.”

With a laugh, Ella admitted to TopMob, it was “all because of a kangaroo.”

Although inspiration can come from anywhere, Ella has discovered what consistently helps her create meaningful music.

She began creating music simply for her own enjoyment, when no one else was paying attention, and she wants to keep it that way. It’s always worked for her, and she’s going to continue making the music she loves and feels passionate about.

“The fans are loving it,” she exclaimed, “so I’m like, ‘All I got to do is make songs I enjoy?’”

The singer of “Be Her,” who was honored with the Powerhouse Award at the Billboard event, was thrilled with the recognition because it showed people were connecting with her true personality.

Honestly, everyone’s finally getting it! They’re seeing how badly I want this, how much I’m fighting for my place here. It’s not just about staying, it’s about being me – the real me – and not backing down, ever. It’s amazing to see people recognize that, you know? It feels so good to finally be seen for who I truly am and to be so determined.

Ella explained that, to her, a truly strong person is someone who is genuine and doesn’t worry about others’ opinions.
